IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME

A revolution in menopause care is long overdue. So Fluxx started one.

Every woman goes through menopause.

Not some. Not most. All.

And yet for the last 20+ years, menopause has been treated like a mystery. An afterthought.

A punchline. A punishment. A “natural stage of life” you’re supposed to just suffer through quietly.

Less than 10% of the NIH research dollars go to women’s health While men get billion-dollar sexual health drugs approved and personalized hair-loss plans, women get:

  • Shrugged off by doctors

  • Confused by celebrity-endorsed supplements

  • Dismissed at work and at home

  • Told their symptoms are “just stress” or “getting older”

  • Ignored by medical training, insurance, and the broader healthcare system

Let’s be very clear: This wasn’t a little oversight. This was a full-scale failure.

And the cost has been staggering.

The Study that Changed Everything

So here we are — 20 years later — trying to undo the damage.

The Women’s Health Initiative released directly to the media early, poorly interpreted results that suggested hormone therapy (HT) was dangerous. Breast cancer! Heart attacks! Clots!

The panic was instant. Prescriptions plummeted.

Medical schools stopped teaching it.

Doctors got scared to prescribe it.

Women were told to tough it out.

Women were convinced estrogen caused breast cancer.

In 2002, a single study changed everything.

“Only 4% of women 50 and older were receiving hormone therapy as of 2018–2019 — down from more than 22% before the WHI panic.”

– The Washington Post

But guess what? The study was flawed.

And the actual risks? Small. Often misunderstood. In some cases, completely irrelevant to the people HT is actually for.

What the data really showed — and what’s now backed by decades of research — is this:

  • Hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for menopause symptoms

  • When started under age 60 or within 10 years of menopause, it lowers your risk of heart disease and osteoporosis

  • The so-called “increased risk of breast cancer”? Less than your daily glass of wine

  • The best benefits go to those who get accurate info and act early

But that’s not what most women were told.

“Many physicians continue to lack training to manage a condition that 100% of middle-aged women will go through.”

– Dr. JoAnn Manson, WHI Investigator, Harvard Medical School

Today's fallout

As a result, clinicians are still misaligned on how best to treat women in fluxx with women missing out on life changing treatment options.

And the damage runs deep.

Hormone therapy use dropped 70% in just 7 years.

Women were left with no options, no guidance, and no clue how to advocate for themselves.

80% of OB/GYN residents graduate with zero menopause training.

65% of women feel blindsided by menopause.

Billions have been funneled into “wellness” products and pseudoscience.

And the conversation has stayed awkward, misinformed, or nonexistent.

This isn’t just frustrating. It’s enraging.

We’ve let millions of women flail through the most destabilizing, identity-rattling health transition of their lives. And we’ve told them it’s normal.

“This must change. Hormone therapy does not deserve its bad reputation. It never did.”

– Dr. Leana Wen, The Washington Post
